Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD)

Challenges:
The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is one of the largest school districts in the nation. The New Facilities group manages the construction of over 350 schools, and needs to manage these projects in an accurate and timely manner.

They use P6 to manage project schedules, and are required to create project baselines monthly. These baselines must be named consistently, then assigned to all users in a consistent manner. While this is possible to do in P6, it is awkward to create many baselines at once, and users must be out of the system during the baseline creation process. Also, with so many baselines being created, it is necessary to be able to delete older baselines in batch.

Our Solution:
Partners was brought in to create an application that allows LAUSD to manage the baselines. We created a set of web-based tools that let users create baselines for multiple projects quickly and easily. It also allows them to assign user and project-level baselines, and to select and delete baselines. The application is simple to use, incorporates P6 security settings, and greatly reduces the time that users must be out of the system.

Results:
The application has saved LAUSD an enormous amount of time. For example, the process of creating baselines once took 4 hours of tedious typing. Now it happens in under 15 minutes. Furthermore, baselines are automatically named consistently, and it is easy to make sure that baselines are assigned properly. Now the Project Schedulers can concentrate on making sure that the projects are delivered on schedule.
